I am not a professional politician. So I won’t tell you I have all the answers. But I see our country moving in the wrong direction, in so many ways. And Wisconsin, under one-party rule, moving the same way. Not forward, but back toward the days when a few powerful Robber Barons called the shots and pretty much all working people were the working poor.

You don’t need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing. Rural economies are suffering. The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and the middle class is slipping into poverty. Hard-working Wisconsinites can’t get ahead. Many have trouble even making ends meet. It’s not because we’re getting stupid or lazy. It’s not because the Laws of Nature have suddenly changed. It’s because the game is rigged and the referees are bought off.

From this page, you can access some rather in-depth issues papers. It’s far from all the challenges we face, but they are among the priorities that triggered me to run for office. I’ll get more up as I can. Please look them over. They will tell you more about my values and my approach than any summary I could give here.

I believe health care is a right. I will work for short-term practical improvements but I will also always have this goal in mind. I support accepting the ACA Medicaid expansion, under which BadgerCare would cover tens of thousands more Wisconsinites struggling to make ends meet and would save Wisconsin hundreds of millions of dollars at the same time. I support “BadgerCare for All,” under which middle-class Wisconsinites could buy into BadgerCare at little to no cost for the state. Read more »

I believe we have a moral obligation to protect our environment not only for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren. And that being smart about it can be good for the economy. Global climate change is real. Wisconsin cannot solve the whole problem, but we can do our part. The Enbridge tar oil pipeline through District 42 poses real risks. I will work to ensure Enbridge is required to carry adequate liability insurance to compensate residents if there is a spill. Our groundwater is a precious shared resource. I will fight to keep it clean. Read more »

I believe it is the responsibility of our government to provide a solid infrastructure that allows us all the opportunity to compete on a level playing field, not to pick winners and losers. Decaying rural infrastructure has adverse impacts on rural economies. We must invest in our roads, in quality internet access, and other high priority needs. Money spent on direct subsidies to big business would be better spent tackling our infrastructure problems. Read more »

The Foxconn deal will not significantly increase job growth in Wisconsin. Most Foxconn jobs will not be good, middle-class jobs capable of supporting a family. Applying the Foxconn job growth model on a broad scale would bankrupt Wisconsin. Read more »

My Promise to You

I don’t have all the answers. But I can assure you I’m not in the pocket of a political establishment or of Big Money donors. I can assure you I’m running for the 42nd Assembly seat for one reason and one reason only: TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

There are scores of other issues. I’m sure there are some that I don’t even know about yet. I don’t have all the answers. But I can promise you this. When I get to Madison, I will base my decisions on facts, not on politics. I will use the best science – real science – to craft the best solutions that work for everyone, not just big campaign contributors. I will hire the best and the brightest, not political hacks, to staff my office and help me in this work. I will do my best to figure out what policies will level the playing field – what policies give us all the best opportunity to succeed – and I will work like hell to get them implemented.

I would appreciate your vote on November 6.
